SOUND ROOM XXI
16.5.2015
Sound Room XXI presents two performances: JUJU and Improvisation.
JuJu is collaborative performance by Juan Duarte and Jukka Hautamäki. It is based on concepts and ideas related to light and voices, electromagnetism sensed by coils, energy transfer over open performativity and improvisation. JuJu is a process, shakedown, test run.
Juan C. Duarte Regino is a media artist, since 2011 based in Finland. Born in Mexico City, with a background in Audiovisual Media, Humanities and Cultural Studies. Currently, his work is focused on interactive and generative art using digital and analog platforms that produce engagement through art and technology artifacts. The process of Duarte's work combines Interaction Design, User experience and Media Archaeology research: the impressions provoked by his work rely on embodied and tangible experiences with sound, to be enacted in public spaces for intuitive and playful entertainment of the imaginative self.

Media artist Jukka Hautamäki (b. 1971), born in Oulu, lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. He works with found materials, electronics, sound, light and video. His sound performances are microscopic studies into electronic sound. Live setup consists of DIY sound devices, which he manipulates in real time by changing components and reconnecting circuits. Relationship between performativity and sound plays a significant role in the live performances.
Hautamäki has performed live in Europe and North America. Performance venues include La-bas Biennale, Lal lal lal and AAVE festival in Helsinki, Ges21 in St. Petersburg, Mengi in Reykjavik, Avatar Centre in Quebec City and Madame Claude in Berlin.
