Mommy when will I get married Video, 10'52" Weimar, Denizli. Ahmet Kavas © 2016. The project, “Mommy when will I get married” is the reflection of a true story which I got stuck. It consists of 4 scenes which were completed both in Weimar/Germany where I am living and in Denizli/Turkey where I come from and is the place of my family bonds. I am faced with the question: “when will you get married?” asked by my family. At least, I was thinking for myself to be able to give an answer to the question, when I took my relationship into account with my partner. The work started with the questions that I asked myself and of which I didn’t find an answer. The work is dealing with the notion of family, identity and home. Family is a part of home for me. A home can be more difficult to re-define by members who have different sexual identities. As a result of the question "When will you get married?" is asked constantly, I am showing my conflict with my mother, a phone interview with my grandmother, my cultural background and my own story of being able to have a family in this video. |
