Vulnerability, collaboration, exchange
A year and a half has passed and like many other artist-run initiatives, our collective has been affected by the pandemic and due to our intimate gallery space we have not been able at all to run our regular programs, events or exhibitions. After a long wait, we are happy to announce that we are looking for media art (video art installation/screening & performances) and sound art proposals to be shown/happen at Third Space this year. This call targets all artists who are based in Finland nationwide. We encourage artists (individual/group) who previously have not been exhibited at Third Space to apply.
This open call focuses on various concepts of vulnerability, loss, coexistence, interdependency, uncertainty, human and non-human relationships, establishing dialogues- how to experience living together in difficult times through art. Artists can apply with old or new artworks, but the project needs to be already completed.
We know that the pandemic has created difficult conditions for all people around the globe, but unfortunately due to the intersection of multiple factors such as race, class, gender, geography and so on some people have faced more hardship than the rest, artists have not been an exception. Many of us have been exposed to further precarious conditions, hardships and vulnerabilities. We hope that among the proposals there will be projects which address these complex issues.
What do we offer
The selected media art projects/works depending on their nature will happen or will be exhibited at Third Space in the format of window installation or major installation in the whole space with a targeted audience (considering the covid-19 effect on the limited number of visitors). If a performance piece is selected, together with the artist/s we will arrange 1-3 days for the event, and Sound Room performances will be arranged as before. The duration of exhibition/screening will be between 2-8 days including the installation and dismantling of the piece. The program will start from August until late November 2021, unless we organise the event online-digitally or in cooperation with other initiatives. The selected artists will be in charge of opening and closing of the space for the duration of the exhibition/events.
Every selected artist will receive a modest fee of 250 € (inc. tax)
