Aquatic Fantastical Organic is an animation exploring the physical sensation of touch and its relation to other senses. By combining biomorphic elements, characters that are reminiscent of aquatic or alien creatures, together with details of the human body, the animation blurs the limits of the body and its surroundings and inhabits the threshold of exterior and interior. The work examines the hidden processes and phenomena of sensations and emotions that physical touch, or the idea of it, triggers.
Drawing from practices of ASMR, embodiment and sensuality, Aquatic Fantastical Organic questions notions of subjectivity, individuality and the idea of who and what is sensing and being sensed. The use of animation allows the depiction of fictional and speculative situations, while the video footage ties the story to our physical reality, and so the story is located somewhere between the known and the imagined world.
The narrative contemplates what kind of relationships with each other, ourselves and our surroundings a tender, curious and accepting approach towards our organicity and sensuousness could enable. It is an exploration of how to reimagine our own corporeality by looking at how our physicality ties us to each other and to our environment.

Emma Johansson (1990, Helsinki) explores relations, care, comfort and bodily experience through video, animation, installation, text and stories. She’s interested in the meeting of fiction, reality and magic, bodies and environments, pasts and futures.
