"At the premises of Third Space a small ritual will take place, performed live for you who want to be part of this moment. It will take place in the space behind the big window. You can choose to watch it from outside, but you are also welcome to enter the space. I will create a sound piece by burning candles and projecting images and light. I will utilize the light that radiates from the candles and images to generate sound. Using simple hand built instruments and some effects I will build up a dreamlike soundscape. The performance will be a moment for reflection and remembrance and the nature of the piece will be gentle. Here burning will be a metaphor for transgression, a constructive step forward. You will be able to watch me light the candles, handle the instruments and go through some gestures and material that define me and my loved ones that have passed away. Personally I will light my candles for my mother and my grandparents, all born in the former Dutch colony Indonesia." |
Arvid van der Rijt I am an audiovisual artist in the most literal way possible. My interest lies mainly in creating an experience, defining an event by giving it a certain place and time span. I make use of sound and image to build up a certain atmosphere, to reach a symbiosis of the visible and invisible. My performances try to immerse the viewer and stimulate an active way of experiencing, I create a situation where you can't escape, but don't want to either. The last few years my work has consisted of live cinema and video performances, where I am exploring the field of hearing and seeing. In Finland my work has been shown at AAVE-festival, Mänttä Taideviikot, Seinäjoki Taidehalli, Pixelache Festival among other places. Abroad in the U.S.A. at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, in Paris, France, at Scratch Expanded organized by Light Cone, in Barcelona, Spain at the L’Alternativa Film Festival, in Germany at the Dresdner Schmallfilmtage and most recently at the first Congo Biennale in Kinshasa. http://archipelagogo.hotglue.me |
