1. a visual score as a drawing on the front window
2. sound devices constructed from electronics, wood, plexiglass and stone
3. ALOES presents a composed performance combining sound and projected particle visuals
4. ❑ ❑ ❑ - workshop - during which a simple oscillator can be constructed
5. an evening to bring your own instruments so we can have a jam session together
During the past two years Marloes van Son has worked on the Devices-project, which consists of experimental instrument design, composition through the development of visual scores, workshops and audiovisual performances.
COMPONENT presents the current state of the Devices-project at Third Space. Next to the exhibition element it includes an audiovisual performance by ALOES (sound: Marloes van Son, visuals: Alex van Giersbergen), a workshop and a ‘bring your own instrument’ - evening. |
Marloes van Son builds systems, installations and instruments. The electromechanical objects that she develops explore natural phenomena and everyday appliances. By repurposing ordinary objects she aims to create unusual, yet familiar experiences. Her recent work focuses on sound compositions, alternative scores and instrument building. During performances Marloes plays her self-built instruments according to precomposed scores, which result in atmospheric soundscapes with melodic elements.

Special events during COMPONENT:
Saturday 17.3
From 19h opening performance of by ALOES (sound: Marloes van Son, visuals: Alex van Giersbergen)
Tuesday 20.3
❑ ❑ ❑ - workshop from 18:30h - 20:30h
https://www.facebook.com/events/347969232363700/
During this 2 hour workshop we will build a very simple sound device that reacts to light. The schematic is based on a design by the Japanese physician Leo Esaki and consists of a transistor, light-sensor (LDR), capacitor, speaker and power source. We will construct this simple oscillator by attaching electronic components with screw-terminals.
Sign up by e-mail: info[at]marloesvanson[dot]nl
Voluntary fee of €10.
Friday 23.3
Bring Your Own Instrument / jam session from 19h - 21h
The idea of this evening is that everyone can bring a sound device or instrument and present a short piece (5 - 10 minutes), after which we will all improvise together.
