Echoes.in.Space

The performance Echoes.in.Space studies how the city unfolds before us as a multi-sensory entity, when instead of simply walking and looking we explore new perspectives on familiar environments through movement and touch. How does the skin meet the city? What do the buildings around us feel like?
Conceptualized by Anna Olkinuora, Echoes.in.Space is a performative visual-sound installation. The visual installation will be a wall size projection of architecture and body movement by Virpi Velin. The photos explore building a new architectural body using the existing built structures and sculpting them into new visual forms. Using long exposure while selecting architectural details of the exterior and interior of a building, Virpi assembles a new perspective through the lens of the camera. During the long exposure, Virpi Velin interacts and moves with the architectural structures moving not only the camera but her body, to embody the surfaces and their depth creating a resonance with the environment. The sound installation is an electroacoustic sound design by Majella Clarke that creates a foundational hum and shimmer reflecting the urban environment played continuously. Movement artist Anna Olkinuora performs against the visual sound backdrop accompanied by Virpi and Majella with instrumental improvisation. |
