I used to listen to Britney Spears is a documentary project, in which gender issues in the Finnish heavy metal scene are studied. What is the female perspective towards the heavy metal scene in Finland? Are women tolerated or included? How does sexism manifest itself within this community? What is the position of this subculture within the mainstream? And can we get rid of the stereotypes connected to it?
The project focuses on four women who are strongly connected with the scene through their hobbies, profession and lifestyle. Through I used to listen to Britney Spears we get to know how they became a metalhead, what metal means to them and the experience of being a woman in the Finnish heavy metal scene. |
