"M"
A short Film by Gabriela Gažovà
17.11.2018 @ 21:00 - 22:00
“M” is about two friends Johnny and Romi who play in a band. Periods, and skipping school. To be a girl – in puberty, in the swimming pool, in high school, in this world – brings many challenges and changes despite Johnny’s wish to be herself and somehow neutral. “M” was made with an almost all female film crew. A choice that reflects not only on the topic of the film but is also a response in itself to the heavily male-dominated state of the Slovak filmmaking scene and film industry in general.
The author of the script and director Gabriela Gažová is a multidisciplinary artist who often works with video-performance, participation, and humor in her works. She explores the topics of femininity - its representation and definition from the point of view of adolescent girls. Drawing inspiration from her own experiences but also from the improvisations, conversations and audition tapes of the teenage actors. The film will be screened together with a short documentary on Making-of-M about auditions and deleted scenes. |
