Alves Ludovico
9-16.5.2017
Scent of smell triggers the recall of our deepest memories. "Migrative Odors", an exhibition by Alves Ludovico. Two statements, one smell experience. "Smell of 100 years of cultural heterogeneity”
The purpose of this diagram is to show pedagogically how the number of new comers have been changing over the last 100 years. Smells confined in the cases are related with the cooking tradition from Finland’s new comers. Spices, oils, groceries and cooking process were collected in order to identify the world fragrances present in Finland. The intensity of the smells displayed chronologically varies according to the amount of heterogeneity in Finnish society. The higher the heterogeneity the more varied and stronger the smell will turn. Visitors will be challenged to discover the right chronological combination for the displayed smells. Alves Ludovico (1990, Lisbon)
As an experimental designer, Alves Ludovico is interested in transforming objects into an intellectual stimulus by working intensively on the form and function. Therefore he develops as many prototypes as possible. Ultimately, the final definition often results from a sort of mistake.
He likes to play with all the areas of design from interior design to jewellery and from everyday objects to spatial installations. Instead of understanding the boundaries between these areas as limitations, he sees them as innovative sphere to create.
A product has to be able to communicate. “The power of design is that it can come to people’s homes and in public places and be there to give inputs, therefore I like to create unique pieces that allow people to get emotional links with”.
Alves Ludovico lives and works between Helsinki and Lisbon.
