PPLATS
19 - 24.5.2017
Welcome to the opening! Thursday 18th of May 18:00 – 20:00.
The project room is open everyday from 14:00 – 19:00. 19 – 24.5.2017 Ö – Saari – Island – is an interactive project room, by the creators of the journal PPLATS*. PPLATS explores the concept of cultural identity linked to places. Place as space, place as a city, place as a country, place as home, place as a website and place as an Island. They invite the audience to create their future vision of an Island, with clay. The island is created by individuals through a collective interaction in the project room during one weeks time. The process will be documented for a feature in the journal PPLATS. *PPLATS – is a journal dealing with places, created by Nayab Ikram and Fredrik Enges. The first issue of the journal will be published autumn 2017. Do you want to participate? Visit our open call at >>>>> www.pplats.com/#opencall Thank you - Third Space, Ålands Kulturdelegation, Svenska Kulturfonden & Henri Lidsle. |
Nayab Ikram is a photographer and visual artist based on the Åland Islands/ Stockholm. She works with concepts like cultural identity and identity formation, through symbolism in a cultural context.
Ikram's thoughts on being an islander: On the Island, I've been influenced by strong, independent personalities, with huge "sisu" attitudes. But also by the endless sea which gives me a sense of freedom.
Fredrik Enges is an artist from the Åland Islands based in Helsinki. He is interested in startup cultures and imagery in general.
Enges's thoughts on being an islander: To live on an Island. When you live there, you feel like running away. When you are away, you want to go back. I guess it's a no-win situation.
