“Wanna make out?”
The last years award winning artist Samira Elagoz has meticulously explored the possibilities of encounters with strangers through screens, lenses and cyberspace. She has used various internet platforms like Craigslist and Chatroulette to find everyday normal co-stars for her works. For this video collection shown at Third Space, Elagoz opened Tinder and started swiping right.
In an app that is notorious for being a sex hunting ground, Elagoz plays into that idea, while transforming it into something more innocent, a first kiss. She uses the forwardness and immediacy of this hookup app, and only meets boys for that moment. They shake hands, exchange names, and kiss.
Age range: 18-25
The audience learns about young male seduction, how they display tenderness, how they simulate being a lover. It shows how they act around a girl when they are no longer hunting for an opportunity to touch, but when it is a given.
“girl I’m gonna show u what true love is”
