nynnyt: What can feminism do? pt.2 – Experiments with the Memorial to Women in Times of War
10.-13.5.2016
The second part of What can feminism do?, an ongoing series of investigations around contemporary feminism and art, takes place online and in Third Space from 10th to 13th of May. During it nynnyt duo Hanna Ohtonen and Selina Väliheikki will initiate experiments with the Memorial to Women in Times of War (Sodanajan naisen muistomerkki), making openings into questions of representation and equality. The memorial is a statue by sculptor Heikki Häiväoja, erected in Kallio, Helsinki in 1996 in order commemorate women who worked in the Second World War.
You are welcomed to follow and take part in the experiments that take place in the window of Third Space,
on site (the memorial is located in Porthaninrinne, Kallio district, Helsinki)

Nynnyt is a curatorial duo of Hanna Ohtonen and Selina Väliheikki, whose work is centered around the thematics of feminism, friendship and friendliness. In their shared practice they focus, along with art, on the encounters between the makers and publics of art as well as on reciprocal learning. Nynnyt are interested in the richness of small actions, in emphatic collides and in moving together against the fur. Together they have done field trips, given talks, organised workshops and events.
What can feminism do? is an ongoing series of investigations around contemporary feminism and art: a possibility to think these things together with hope, chance/change and activism. The first part took place in November 2015 as a research chamber and micro library set up in Third Space, Helsinki.
