Notice: The performance is not recommended for young children because of possible disturbing sexual content.
Katri Kainulainen and Maximilian Latva are partners in art and life. Their performances depict trauma, sexuality, madness and the sublime resilience of love. Their art reflects the phenomena of the adult sexualised world through naive eyes, using fantasy-like imagery.
Since 2014 the work of Kainulainen & Latva has been presented at established domestic venues, such as Kiasma-theatre, Mad House Helsinki etc., but mostly they are performing abroad at festivals and events dedicated to performance art - Solyanka State Gallery in Moscow, Festival of Naked Forms in Prague and Creature Live Art in Lithuania, to name a few.
Characteristic elements to Kainulainen & Latva performances include self-made costumes and other equipment, soundscapes or music-like approaches combined with strong physical presence.
The duo does not repeat their performances and every performance is a unique piece of art. Kainulainen and Latva are now working on a new piece for Third Space, playing with ideas of different forms of waste and the flimsy image of Winter Wonderland in the era of climate change. They are now interested in Finnish folklore, concentrating on themes like sexuality, shame, protection and malicious magic prevalent in Finnish tradition.
